Lichtjesavond in Delft is free to attend and suitable for all ages. It can get busy in the city during Lichtjesavond, so be sure to keep an eye on each other.

Accessibility

  • Public Transport: We recommend traveling to Lichtjesavond by public transport. The city is easily accessible from Delft Station.
  • Bike: You can use the free bike racks on Phoenixstraat and Nieuwe Langendijk. There are also fixed bike racks at Oude Langedijk, Vesteplein, and Station Delft.
  • Car: Arriving by car? Park your vehicle in one of the parking garages. We recommend parking at Marktgarage, Prinsenhofgarage, or Zuidpoortgarage.

Note: Keep a close eye on your personal belongings and watch out for pickpockets.

What should I consider if I’m traveling by public transport?

We recommend traveling to Lichtjesavond by public transport. The city center is also easily accessible by bus and tram. Please note that after Lichtjesavond, it can be busy at tram, train, and bus stations.

Where can I park my car?

Arriving by car? You can park in one of the garages. We recommend parking at Marktgarage, Prinsenhofgarage, or Zuidpoortgarage. You can find more information about parking in Delft here.

Where can I park my bike (for free)?

If you're coming to Lichtjesavond by bike, you can use the free bike racks at Phoenixstraat and Nieuwe Langendijk. There are also fixed bike racks at Oude Langendijk, Vesteplein, and Station Delft.

Bikes are not allowed to be parked in other areas of the city center. Bikes will be removed from places such as near the Town Hall and on Burgwal.

What are the walking routes?

This year, you can find the walking routes marked by signs saying "meer zien van Lichtjesavond?" (Want to see more of Lichtjesavond?). There are no longer color-coded walking routes.

Are there any road closures in the city center?

Yes, the city center will be mostly closed off. Even areas where residents can usually enter and park will be closed off. These closures apply to cars and cyclists. Cyclists will also be asked to detour at various spots in the city due to heavy traffic. Closures will be in effect from 3:00 PM to 10:30 PM, or later if emergency services deem it necessary. This includes the entire car-free zone, even for residents. The following areas will be closed:

  • Oude Delft, from Peperstraat to Oude Kerk
  • Vrouwenregt, Vrouwjuttenland, and Verwersdijk (up to Doelenplein)
  • Doelenplein
  • Vaandelstraat
  • Molslaan
  • Oude Langendijk (including delivery scooters)
  • Brabantse Turfmarkt

Where can I find first aid (EHBO)?

First aid teams from the Red Cross will be walking around the city. Additionally, a first aid station is set up at Jessehof and Burgwal 50.

Where can I find a toilet?

Public toilets are available at Halsteeg, OPEN, and the bike rack on Oude Langendijk. You can also download the Hoge Nood app, which shows all the public toilets in Delft.

Where do I dispose of my waste?

Good question. Definitely not on the ground. Please use the trash bins located throughout the city center. There are 14 recycling stations spread across the city, and you can also use the regular waste bins.

Where can I find or bring a missing child?

Children may become separated from their parents or guardians during Lichtjesavond. If you encounter a missing child, please report it immediately to the event staff by speaking to one of the employees. A designated area for missing children will be set up at the Town Hall, accessible via the rear entrance.

Does Lichtjesavond have a zero tolerance policy?

Yes, we have a zero tolerance policy regarding drugs and fireworks during Lichtjesavond. Open flames and/or fireworks are not allowed in the city center. There is also surveillance camera monitoring in various areas of the city center to ensure the safety of visitors.
