The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols was first held on Christmas Eve in 1880 at Truro Cathedral. Since 1928, this festival has been broadcast annually on Christmas Eve by the BBC from King’s College, beginning with the moving hymn Once in Royal David’s City.
This celebration has also gained a loyal following in the Netherlands. In the Old Catholic Church at Bagijnhof 21, this prayer service has been successfully organized for several years.
The project choir will perform the traditional Lessons & Carols, under the skilled leadership of Petra Weijers, with David Hurley as conductor and Jeroen de Ridder as organist.
Admission is free and suitable for both Dutch and English-speaking audiences. A collection will be held afterward.
