Maria van Jessekerk
The Maria van Jessekerk is a neo-Gothic Roman Catholic parish church. The church was built in the period 1875 - 1882 and designed by Evert Margry, a student of P.J.H. Cuypers.
The Maria van Jessekerk is the inner city church of the parish and also the oldest. There was already a Roman Catholic church on the site of the choir of the current church in 1733. In 1837 this church was replaced by a larger one, the St. Joseph Church on the Oude Langendijk. This made way for the current church, which was built between 1875 and 1882 on the Burgwal.
The church was designed by Everard Margry, a student of the famous architect Pierre Cuypers. Margry has paid a lot of attention to the details. The left tower, for example, resembles that of the Nieuwe Kerk, while the design for the right tower is derived from that of the Oude Kerk.

The church has a rich interior. The murals and stained glass windows are particularly striking. The church has a rare and monumental organ by builder Michaël Maarschalkerweerd; This has also been restored - just like the church.
